I do not know the mechanism of this action, but I will say that yes, it is so.

From my own experience, by the end of cooking - hunger disappears.

I also noticed one detail - when you do not leave the stove, you just look at what you are cooking, but (attention), you don’t taste, but you just look, you inhale the smell of the dish - the desire to eat disappears altogether.

Perhaps the heat and the smell from the saucepan / the pans are fed.

However, it seems to me that this is a matter of psychology.

Based on the question, I conclude that before cooking, the person wanted to eat, therefore, being hungry, being in a state of low blood glucose, the brain, and in particular the hypothalamus, gave a signal that the body needs food. In such a state, "biting" is inevitable. By tasting food a little while cooking, we satisfy our hunger.
