If some phenomenal scientific discovery does not take place in biology, pharmaceuticals, etc., then these limits are, in principle, known for their weight categories. In weightlifting, heavyweights were pushing 260-265 back in the dark green year. And, as you can see, no innovations in methods and farming allowed to break through the ceiling, as well as the presence of a huge muscle mass. It's the same with middleweights: how Vardanyan pushed 222.5, so I can't remember higher results. Powerlifting is a little more interesting. The guys periodically shoot with phenomenal results, the last 10 years, deadlift has especially attracted the attention of fans of iron games. Although, again, about this particular exercise there is controversy over the technique of execution - they say, it is easier to pull in sumo, but it is inconvenient for heavy weights, which is why there is a bias towards medium and moderately heavy weights. As for ordinary mortals who are not gifted with special genetics, everything is the same as 70 years ago: a master of sports is the ceiling for the majority. Further, either the strength will stop growing, and classes will simply become work, and not constant progress - or the body will already begin to malfunction in the form of permanent pains and injuries. These factors determine the limit of the possibilities of ordinary people at the present time.

I suppose the limit is different for everyone. Much here is determined by genetics.

And between these sports, by the way, you should not put an equal sign. Powerlifting is a kind of sport "absolutely power" there are technical nuances, but in weightlifting there are much more of them and it is a high-speed power sport, it requires a higher degree of coordination and speed qualities, and therefore the dependence on intramuscular and intermuscular coordination is greater.

The limits of a person are generally determined approximately by world records (plus / minus). Let's say in the bench press an absolute record without equipment of 335 kg. And in the clean and jerk the results are close to 260-265.

You need to understand that in powerlifting there is essentially no doping control (only in AWPC, but 10% of participants are tested there too and the list of substances differs from the WADA list), so the results there will improve gradually. In weightlifting, the situation is reversed. Will deteriorate as many substances that were not previously determined will be determined.

As for the "average person", I think that most people can be brought to the level of 1 category - CCM with a sufficient share of work and perseverance. The level of a master of sports is already more difficult, here you need good genetics and / or pharmaceutical support. Well, only the stars are higher ...

Again, there are people who are not at all talented for these sports (a large proportion of slow, oxidative, fibers, long levers).

But one can speak one hundred percent about each person only by knowing his muscle composition and seeing progress (at least the first year).
