In the United States, the NIH, a government agency dedicated to complementary medicine, lists acupuncture primarily for muscle pain (neck and back pain, knee pain) and headaches. Insomnia and various psychological problems are also often mentioned. Acupuncture is widely represented in the United States in large hospitals.

In a 2017 publication by researchers from the University of York, based on a study of cases of chronic pain and depression, it was shown not only the effectiveness of acupuncture for treating these conditions, but also its irreducibility to placebo effects.

Finally, a 2013 article in Harvard Men's Health Watch based on current research in acupuncture cites a study in which the authors suggest that the mechanism of acupuncture effect may be related to its effects on neurotransmitters and hormone levels. It also suggests that acupuncture can have a beneficial effect on the immune system, which can be interesting from the point of view of preventing seasonal infections.

However, firstly, scientific research on acupuncture has not yet been accumulated enough to date, and - secondly, it demonstrates the same effectiveness not for all diseases. For example, a recent meta-study (May 2018) did not reveal any particular effectiveness of acupuncture for hypertension, but for dry eye syndrome, acupuncture seems to be even more effective than conventional therapy, though not for all patients.

In general, about 28 thousand articles on acupuncture are currently posted on PubMed, and the results there are very different: from positive to none (for various diseases). Therefore, its use is usually combined with conventional therapy.

Only placebo effect. There is no reliable evidence of a real medical effect from acupuncture. I would very much like to ask "oriental medical experts": where are the scientific studies confirming the effect of acupuncture, where are dissertations, publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals?
Somehow I thought about this question: what is the evolutionary meaning in "energetically active points" or "zones" of our body, if any? If someone believes in higher beings, then he may ask a similar question: what was the point in making these "points", why were they for the "engineer" of the human body? Each organ has its own purpose, or it once was, but now it has lost its relevance for a person, although the organ (s) may have survived or some remainder of it, but why bring out certain "points of influence" on other organs?
In fact, all the active zones are brought out where necessary, are known to everyone, they are saturated with special nerve cells, their meaning is clear, the purpose is also, especially for adults: these are the senses and genitals.
On the contrary, from the point of view of survival it is impossible to bring to the surface the points through which the influence on the internal organs can be exerted, because if the influence could be positive, then it can also be negative. And what is needed for survival, it is derived: for example, all over the skin (more precisely, under it) there are cells responsible for the sensation of heat-cold, touch and pain.

Yeah, if you believe in all sorts of energy lines and stuff.

Acupuncture is the same pseudomedicine as, for example, homeopathy.

I have not seen that somewhere in civilized countries this practice was used in official medicine and was recognized by scientists.

I really love the analogy of our body with a piano, which needs tuning from time to time. A reflexologist (acupuncture specialist) can use needles to relax muscle clamps, remove imbalances, relieve tension, stimulate a specific organ - in a word, make the body work without problems and small imbalances do not develop into real diseases.
, acupuncture has several areas of application, which not everyone knows about:

- Prevention of seasonal allergies
- Emergency help for colds and their prevention
- Fight stress and insomnia
- Removal muscle clamps (for example, after sports)
- Decreased appetite
- Help with smoking cessation
- Fight wrinkles and improve complexion
- Help with a hangover;)
