Ways of Getting Traffic to a Blog

Someone who has just launched a blog, cannot expect a good fan base right in the beginning itself. Therefore the blog has to depend on other people, websites, blogs etc who would put in some good comments for the blog.

Posting Comments:

Blog owners can always go ahead and comment on the quality of others’ blogs. While commenting, there is always an option to provide one’s blog URL. The blog owners are always advised to leave positive comments on blogs of their interests along with a URL to their blogs. This does not necessarily refer to spamming blogs with comments. The person must make sure to leave comments on only those blogs, which he or she likes. This would also help the person to form a good relationship with that blog owner where he or she visits frequently. Several times, posting a link on sitefever.com had shown itself up on blogs that uses the best commentator plug in.

Chat Rooms:

Chat rooms might seem to be an old fashioned way for many but it still works. If the blog owner has a Yahoo or an MSN Id, then he can look out for chat rooms, which relate to the subject with which he deals. The person can go ahead and chat with others and let them know about his blog. Also posting a link to the blog in the chat room would be a good idea. Chat rooms are a good way to publicize a particular blog to hundreds of people at the same time.

Myspace:

If the blogger has a Myspace account, then it is always to mention about the blog on the main profile page. It’s also important to increase the friend circle in Myspace and send as many bulletins as possible to the friends who would find it interesting to read them.

Email Signature:

Bloggers are always sending mails each day to several people. An email signature can work out to be a good technique to market the blog to everyone to whom the email is sent. A working link must be included in the signature so that the receivers of the email can visit the blog.

Blog Announcement:

An honest, well-structured article must be written about the blog. The overall subject matter along with the purpose must be included in the article. This article should then be sent to every blog owner with whom a good relationship has already been formed. 2 or 3 links directing to the blog along with a link for an RSS Feed can also be included in this article.

Blog Networking:

It doesn’t matter even if the blog is incomplete. The blog owner can go ahead and form relationships with the blogging community. This acts as a good marketing procedure, which works even if the blog is not launched officially. MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog are some blog networks where the bloggers can join. To start with, this web link can be used:  http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/ The blog owner can join there and can even go through the blogs of other individuals.

Blog Reviews:

It works almost like a blog announcement. In such a case, the blog owner in question contacts the other blog owner with whom he has already formed good relationship and writes an honest review about his blog. The other blog owner in return writes a review for the former blog owner. It works well if one of the blog owner posts a review first and the other blog owner must wait for atleast a week before posting his review. But such blog reviews must be honest and must not seem too flattering.

Forums:

A forum is another good tool to make several people aware of a blog. So if the blog owner is a member of good forums like forums.digitalpoint.com, the blog owner can easily create a thread in the forum by putting in a link for his blog and asking people to check it out. Some other methods like forum signatures and forum avatars can be used to promote a blog in the forum itself. It works well because forum signatures and avatars are displayed every time the blog owner makes a post in the forum, which stays forever.

Link Directories:

There are virtually thousands of link directories in the Internet. Some webmaster-related forums can be used to search for link directories. There are several link directory owners out there who are in the look out for links, which they can add to their site. But it’s always important to submit the blog link to the most related category link directory, which would help in increasing the increasing the traffic to the blog.

Free Stuff:

Everyone loves to get free stuff. If a blog owner needs a fast flow of traffic, then he must look out for blogs that receives the same amount of traffic, which the primary blog owner receives. The primary blog owner can now contact the other blog owner mentioning that he would like himself to be mentioned in one of their blog posts. In return the primary blog owner can offer an advertising space for the other blog for free.

Bartering:

A lot of links come into question with a new blog. After finding out blogs, which contain similar subject matter, the blog owner can contact the owner of other blogs requesting them to swap links. The blog owner might even request the other blog holder to write an honest review about his blog and in exchange the main blog owner can also publish a true review for the other blog. Also being enlisted on websites such as Technorati proves to be fruitful during such situations since the blog owner can let the website know that at the least, the Technorati authority will increase by 1.
