Using Web Directories to Increase Your Search Engine Rank

The whole purpose of an online business is to make money and the only way you can make money is if people know about the existence of your website, and we all know that the best way to get plenty of exposure is to have a high search ranking on the search engines.

The first thing you need to do when you are looking for the best way to optimize your website is research how Google assigns search rankings. Google is, without exception, the most popular search engine. The thing that you have to remember when you are looking at Google’s system for determining search ranking is that Google is not the only search engine the internet has. Approximately fifty-eight percent of the people who use Google as their primary search engine also use a second search engine when they are looking something up online. Since the consumer is using multiple browsers to find what they are seeking, doesn’t it make sense that you should be doing the same thing?

One of the ironies about getting your webpage listed with other directories is that having multiple listings will actually improve your Google search ranking. The reason this happens is because Google also indexes directory listings for other search engines.

One of the best ways to make sure that your online business gets the exposure you are looking for is to get it listed with search engine friendly web directories that have one way links. Google’s WebCrawler’s really like these directories. When you are getting your website listed make sure that the directory is really search engine friendly and not a link farm.

Before you start to look at online search engine friendly web directory you will need to decide how much money you are willing to spend optimizing your internet website. To get your website listed on some of the internet directories is free but some of the others charge a fee, a fee that can sometimes cost you hundreds of dollars. Once you have decided how much you can afford to spend to get your website listed on a web directory stick to your budget, all the exposure in the world won’t do you any good if your online business goes belly up because you splurged on your SEO strategy.

Before submitting any of your website’s information to any directory, double check that it has not been banned by Google.
